Funding Opportunities

Developmental Grant Guidelines

Funding: The Society will provide up to £1000 to cover travel and accommodation for participants and other small incidental costs. Costs will be reimbursed through a University or other appropriate organisation. The organisers of funded workshops will be required to supply accounts of the monies spent and a brief factual report of the workshop.

Applications: Applications can be made at any time by completing the application form. The organisers and participants of the workshop must include some members of SRIP. Although all applications will be considered on their merits, the following are most likely to be successful:

  • Workshops dealing with topics that are important both academically and clinically
  • Workshops which involve a reasonable number of speakers and other participants and extend over more than one day.
  • Workshops whose participants come from a number of different Universities, NHS Trusts or other organisations with some regional geographical spread.
  • Workshops which are multidisciplinary and involve clinical or other professional practitioners as well as academic participants.

Applications should indicate:

  • The topic, dates and location of the workshop.
  • Its organisers and proposed participants and their professional and institutional affiliations. Please indicate which organisers/participants are members of SRIP.
  • Costings to a maximum of £1000 to be met by the Society.
  • The amount and source of any other funding. If an application is pending, the date when the result will be known.

Annual Student Prize

The Society for Reproductive and Infant Psychology is a multi-disciplinary organisation concerned with the psychological, behavioural, medical and social aspects of all areas of reproduction, birth and infancy.

Each year the society awards an Annual Prize for a research thesis submitted as part of an undergraduate degree (B.A. / B.Sc.), masters by research (M.A. / M.Sc.), or equivalent level professional training (e.g., MBBS).* The subject of the thesis may be any aspect of reproduction, birth or infancy.

If you are working on a dissertation at this level, why not enter?

You could win £150 and an expenses paid trip to the SRIP annual conference (see terms and conditions).

The winning entrant will be invited to give a short presentation of the research at the Annual Conference. All entries will be automatically considered for submission as a poster presentation at the conference.

  • The thesis should be submitted to Anita Hughes either via email or by post to the address below, and should be in the form required by your educational institution.
  • All entries should be accompanied by a 250 word abstract and a 500 word summary.
  • Normally, it is expected that the thesis would be no longer than 15000 words.
  • All entries must be typed, and accompanied by a letter from the supervisor of the research, drawing attention to its strengths.
  • Please include a contact address for the student, to which the thesis can be returned.
  • Theses should be entered in the year they are submitted for the degree or training course, or in the following year.
  • All entries must be received by 30th June.

M.Phil., D.Clin.Psy., and Ph.D. theses are not eligible for the prize. However, a post-graduate prize is now available.

Annual Graduate Student Prize

The Society for Reproductive and Infant Psychology is a multi-disciplinary organisation concerned with the psychological, behavioural, medical and social aspects of all areas of reproduction, birth and infancy.

The Society has instituted an annual prize for a research thesis submitted as a full or partial requirement for a post graduate degree, including M.Phil., D.Clin.Psy. and Ph.D and other similar awards. The subject of the thesis may be any aspect of reproduction, birth or infancy.

If you are working on a dissertation at this level, why not enter?

The prize is £250, a year's membership of SRIP and an expenses paid trip to the SRIP annual conference (see terms and conditions).

The winning entrant will be invited to give a paper based on their research at the Annual Conference. All entries will be automatically considered for submission as a poster presentation at the conference.

  • Entries should take the form of a 250 word abstract, a 1000 word summary and copies of the title and contents pages of the thesis.
  • All entries must be typed, and accompanied by a letter from the supervisor of the thesis, drawing attention to its strengths.
  • Theses should be entered in the year they are submitted for the degree or training course, or in the following year.
  • Shortlisted entrants may be required to submit a copy of the thesis.
  • All entries must be received by 30th June.

SRIP Conference Bursary for Students

The Society for Reproductive and Infant Psychology (SRIP) is a multi-disciplinary organisation concerned with the psychological, behavioural, medical and social aspects of all areas of reproduction, birth and infancy.

Since 1980 SRIP has organized an annual international scientific conference to exchange research findings, develop research interest and networks and to engage with clinical partners. The society awards bursaries to enable academic students to attend the conference and prizes to esteemed researchers (clinical and academic) in recognition of their work.

The Society provides a total of 3 Bursaries for students to attend the conference each year. The bursary will cover Conference Fees and up to £150 towards travel and accommodation.

Applications for a bursary will be considered on an individual basis by the committee. Preference will be given to students presenting a paper or poster and to those who have no, or limited, funds available to support conference attendance

Application Process

Applications should be made in writing to the Secretary of SRIP and should include:

  • A brief CV (no more than 3 pages) and a statement of justification for receiving funding (e.g. to present a poster or paper, relevance of the conference to research being undertaken).
  • A letter of support from the research supervisor or tutor outlining the potential benefits to the student of attending the conference and confirming details of the course being undertaken.
  • Details of what the bursary will cover (e.g. travel, registration fees, accommodation).

The closing date for receipt of applications is the end of June of the year in which the conference is due to take place.

SRIP Conference Bursary for NHS Staff

The Society for Reproductive and Infant Psychology (SRIP) is a multi-disciplinary organisation concerned with the psychological, behavioural, medical and social aspects of all areas of reproduction, birth and infancy.

Since 1980 SRIP has organized an annual international scientific conference to exchange research findings, develop research interest and networks and to engage with clinical partners. The society awards bursaries to enable academic students to attend the conference and prizes to esteemed researchers (clinical and academic) in recognition of their work.

The Society would like to promote a new Clinical Bursary for NHS staff who have actively engaged with research or implemented research into clinical practice.

Eligibility for Award

The SRIP conference bursary is available to NHS staff who can demonstrate one or more of the following;

  1. direct engagement with the implementation of evidence-based practice e.g. development and operationalisation of clinical guidelines relating to the Society’s interests;
  2. direct engagement with the conduct of appropriate research e.g. participating with the recruitment of participants; data collection or active members of advisory boards for research projects.

Application Process

Applications should be made in writing to the Secretary of SRIP and should include:

  1. a brief CV (no more than 3 pages) and a statement of justification for receiving funding (e.g. potential benefits of attending the conference);
  2. a letter of support from the principal investigator of the research project or clinical manager confirming eligibility;
  3. details of what the bursary will cover (e.g. travel, registration fees, accommodation).

Applications should be received by the 30th June.
Applicants will be informed of the committee’s decision by the end of July.
